When we buy any product, we expect the same quality that it claims to offer. This is why companies have quality control and various tests before a product is finally released to the world to be sold. However, there are numerous cases of a product having a defect. Sometimes the defect would be so fatal that it causes injuries to the customers. If you call the customer service, all they’ll do is either blame it on you or send you a new one. This new one wouldn’t compare if you have injuries caused by the defect. Here are two steps that you can take to make sure the company never sends out a defect product ever again, and you’ll get reimbursed for any costs that you have to spend because of the defect (e.g., health expenses if the defect causes severe injuries).
Seal the evidence
Let’s say your pressure cooker blows up on you, causing the boiling contents to splatter all over the room and all over you, and you end up having severe burns. Instead of being angry and panicking, which is understandable, you need to secure all the evidence as soon as possible. Find the nearest camera or camera phone and take pictures of the incident. Take photos of the product after it’s blown up, your skin burns, and all the mess it made. Take a picture of the time and date of when it happened. Also, write down detailed notes on how it happened, from what you were trying to make in the pressure cooker to how you used it, and how it looked like before it blew up. All these evidence will be your weapon when you report it to the company responsible.
Contact an experienced lawyer
Once you’ve had all of your evidence, it’s time for you to take it to court. First, you’ll need to do extensive research on product liability laws, because you have to make sure whether or not you’ll be able to sue. You should also study what the product offers, and how the defect severely cost you. You can learn more about the lawsuits here so you’ll have a better understanding of what will go down. Find yourself a lawyer that has had experiences in dealing with product defect lawsuits. Do background research on whether or not the lawyer that you choose has won cases in this field. It is also a good idea to consider the cost of hiring a lawyer so you can set out a budget.
